Land and Water
I am consistently fascinated with the landscape - especially if there is water included.
Encaustic Mixed Media
Encaustic is an ancient art medium that is making a resurgence. Originating in Greece in the 4th Century BCE, it has withstood the tests of time. Filtered beeswax is infused with damar resin, resulting in a harder and more heat resistant surface. The wax medium can be melted then colored with pigments resulting in a molten paint that can be manipulated with heated tools. The medium is exceptionally archival, ancient works still look fresh centuries later. See below for more information.*
Working in encaustic, I encase fragments of artifacts from my oil painting process within the layers of beeswax creating a literal back-ground beneath the translucent layers. Each back-ground then serves as a setting for the drawings and shapes freely shifting through those layers. Those drawings may be made on acid-free tissue which is then encased in layers of beeswax, or incised directly into the surface of the wax with various tools. Those incisions are then filled with oil color.
Abstract forms move throughout the paintings, individually or in relationship to one another. These shifts and layers are significant to my experience as I move through life, the past providing the back-ground for all current experience while simultaneously laying the path to those occurrences yet to come.

Still Life
I love seeing an arrangement of objects that catches my eye. I also love putting together items in a unique and seemingly random way. From time to time, I include other artworks into an arrangement, creating a new piece of art with already existing works.
Feathers
I love feathers! I've always been a collector of found feathers, feeling that each one is a gift from nature directly to me. As my feather paintings became known by friends and collectors, I received many, many gifts of found feathers from others. My collection is rather large... :)
Commissioned Works
These works were a result of a collaboration between the collector and myself. Many were commissioned as a gift for a collector's loved one and it pleases me to no end to be a part of a wonderful gift that can be passed through generations.
Pet portraits are also a very special project for me, I always fall in love with the pet that I'm painting!
